You Drive a Hilux

Out May 6, ‘You Drive a Hilux’ is an off-kilter anthem from NT queer indie-folk artist Alice Cotton and was recorded with industry heavy-weights Gormie (Angie McMahon, Tracy McNeil) and Holly Thomas (Quivers). ‘You Drive a Hilux’ is the second offering from the Darwin artist carving up the country’s regional music scene. Fresh off a finalist nomination for the Australian Folk Music Awards, Cotton’s Auslan-interpreted debut single ‘Sleeping Dogs’ garnered a feature in Tone Deaf and play on triple j and 2SER.

Bio.

Darwin queer indie artist Alice Cotton’s infectious songs ‘hit you with the depth and breadth of her storytelling’ (triple j). Fresh off a top 10 placement in NT’s Territory Sounds Countdown, Cotton’s latest single ‘You Drive a Hilux’ was a collaboration with industry heavy-weights Gormie (Angie McMahon, Tracey McNeil) and Holly Thomas (Quivers) and scored high-rotation on SYN FM.

Her debut track ‘Sleeping Dogs’ and Auslan-interpreted film-clip garnered a Tone Deaf feature, national radio play, and a finalist nomination for the Australian Folk Music Awards. Cotton has opened for D Henry Fenton and Great Aunt, performed nationally on stages at Darwin Festival, and The Village Festival, and has been compared to Paul Kelly and Stella Donnelly by triple j. She recently won a NT Arts Access Award for her work with disabled musicians.

Locally, you can catch Cotton opening for The Audreys in September or performing with post-punk feminists The Ovulators.
